SUMMARY
My
qualifications are founded in education as an Industrial Engineer, material
handling and warehousing work experiences of nearly 40 years, and prior casework
involving Retail Warehouses. I have
a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and a Master of Science in Operations
Research.
Working
as an Industrial Engineer has deeply involved me in warehousing and material
handling activities, beginning with my first work assignment at General Motors.
In 7 years with Deloitte Touche, my skills in material handling and
warehousing were applied to the Retail Industry were I consulted to major retail
chains like AMC, parent of Macys and Bloomingdale (a detailed listing is in my
CV). During that phase of my career
I was a nationally recognized professional in retail warehousing and spoke at
leading professional organizations on logistic issues.
I also taught an evening college course in warehousing and inventory
management.
As
a material handling and warehousing consultant to the Retail Industry, I have
designed millions of square feet of retail warehousing space, specified
equipment, and established detailed procedures for receiving, storing, and
retrieving retail merchandise. Retail
clients represented multi-store chains with as many as 600+ locations and
merchandise including: hardware, automotive, sporting goods, major appliances,
soft goods, and HBA.
My
professional responsibilities have included employee training and safety.
I wrote a remedial training course for retailer buyers and merchandisers.
I also taught that 3-day course, which dealt with retail
inventory management, warehousing, and retail display, to companies like R.E.I.
Coop.
My
management skills were developed initially as a Production Line Foreman for
General Motors, management of professional consultants for Deloitte Touche, and
as Vice President and General Manager for a 300 person manufacturing company. In the latter position, I had daily responsibility for 225
unionized workers and 25 management staff.
